Sleep Disorders & Sleep Studies
If you experience trouble sleeping, and this problem affects your overall health or quality of life, you may benefit from a sleep study.
Ellis Sleep Center Studies
Our state-of-the-art sleep centers at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady or the Amsterdam Sleep Center offer sleep studies in what seems like a nice hotel room. A member of our team is in a nearby room recording your brain activity as well as selected information from your body. Together, this information provides a detailed picture of your unique sleep patterns—including how much time you spend in light and deep stages of sleep, whether you’re receiving enough oxygen, how often you awaken (even slightly), and whether your sleep is disrupted by factors such as arm and leg movements.
Home Sleep Studies
HST or home sleep study is done in the comfort of your own home. You will meet with one of our staff members to show you how to use the machine. Then you take the machine home, before bed put the machine on. Then go to sleep as normal.
After the study, a board-certified sleep physician analyzes the data collected to diagnose any sleep disorders. Based on the diagnosis, the physician will discuss treatment options with you. Treatments can range from lifestyle changes, like improving sleep hygiene or adjusting sleep schedules, to medical interventions such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy for sleep apnea, medication for narcolepsy, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, or even surgery in certain cases.
Our sleep center also provides follow-up support to adjust treatments as needed, and to help manage any underlying conditions effectively.
