Reinventing healthcare one patient at a time

24/7 Emergency

Quality emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

The Golub Center for Emergency Services at Ellis Hospital is a state-of-the-art medical facility that provides high quality emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Ellis Medicine's Emergency Department handles more than 75,000 visits per year. We continue to implement new initiatives to improve quality of care and reduce the wait time for patients.

Highlights of our recent improvements include:

Streamlined triage and registration process that has reduced the average time from triage to getting a patient into an exam room to just 11 minutes.

Added physician and nursing staff, plus 17 additional treatment rooms help ease the congestion that came with unifying three hospitals into one.

Physician In Triage (PIT) program through which an emergency room physician conducts an initial assessment of the patient, ordering medications and testing as needed.

An electronic Emergency Department Tracking Board and electronic health records (debuting in 2011) will help provide greater efficiencies, enhanced communication among caregivers, and ultimately provide further quality and patient safety improvements.

Ellis' emergency medicine experts are utilizing innovative, time saving procedures and technology to enhance quality of care and reduce the wait time for patients.

Ellis collaborates with EMS professionals by donating enhanced EKG units that can transmit EKGs directly to the ED, helping to recognize heart attack patients even before they arrive at Ellis.

Ensuring a continuum of care

Ellis Medicine strives to ensure that a patient's care doesn't end when he or she leaves the emergency department. Ellis' Emergency care team collaborates with the hospital's case managers and the health services navigators at the Ellis Medical Home to link patients with the resources they need when they leave the hospital - whether it's a referral to a primary or specialty care physician, assistance with completing an application for health insurance or connecting them to community and social service agencies. These collaborations go a long way toward reducing unnecessary emergency room visits and providing an effective continuum of care for the patient.
