Ellis wins MVP Mental Health and Well-Being Innovation Award

Friday, February 25, 2022

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.-- Ellis Medicine is proud to announce that it has been named a recipient of the 2022 MVP Mental Health and Well-Being Innovation Award.

The accolade from Schenectady-based insurer MVP Health Care recognizes the efforts Ellis made to safeguard the mental health and well-being of its employees during the COVID 19 pandemic. The institution was evaluated against best practices outlined by the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO).  These include raising awareness of the importance of mental health and well-being, managing psychosocial risks related to work, environment and culture, and integrating mental health and well-being into a comprehensive wellness program. Ellis was honored after presenting its initiatives at the MVP Mental Health Innovation Summit earlier this year.

“It is a difficult time in the healthcare industry, with the pandemic and staffing shortages creating more stress for employees than ever before,” said Paul Milton, President & CEO at Ellis Medicine. “Ellis is honored to be recognized for putting the focus on our people and giving them the support they need to be at their best in providing care to our patients.”

Employee wellness has always been a priority for Ellis but took on extra significance during the pandemic. The organization’s innovative strategies included Code Lavender, an intervention designed to help clinical staff dealing with compassion fatigue and burnout; the expanded availability of Employee Assistance Program webinars and on-site biometric screenings; employee recognition programs; and integrative therapies including reiki and massage. Ellis’ Healthy ME challenge, a program that rewards employees for activities that nurture the mind, body and spirit, was expanded to address the shifting realities of the pandemic. For example, a Team Walking Challenge became a Buddy Walk with spouses, children and pets eligible to serve as buddies.

“At Ellis, health and wellness are what we do.” Milton said. “I am proud of how our employees have risen to the occasion in the battle against COVID-19 and am I equally proud of our efforts to offer assistance to our employees during this time.”
