Ellis Medicine and aptihealth Announce New Partnership, Addressing Increasing Demand for Mental Health Services in the Capital Region

aptihealth’s teletherapy services to provide fast, easy access to personalized therapy and medication management for Capital Region residents served by Ellis Medicine

(Schenectady, NY) – Ellis Medicine and aptihealth, a behavioral health engagement company that integrates physical and mental healthcare services, today announced a new partnership to provide immediate access to virtual mental healthcare to patients of Ellis Medicine.

Ellis Medicine is the third, and largest, hospital system to partner with aptihealth. The 438-bed community and teaching healthcare system is the only full-service medical center serving the residents of Schenectady County.

“With the demand for mental healthcare services continuing to grow, aptihealth complements Ellis’ existing behavioral health services to ensure their patients receive fast, easy access to care, virtually,” said Dan Pickett, CEO of aptihealth. “By providing comprehensive and personalized teletherapy through aptihealth’s integrated platform, we eliminate barriers to accessing a physical location and allow the patient to receive care from wherever they’re comfortable. This new partnership allows the mental health patients that Ellis Medicine serves to connect directly to our diverse group of patient-first behavioral health providers.”

Select mental health patients will have immediate access to virtual behavioral healthcare services that are integrated with their physical healthcare received through Ellis Medicine. aptihealth’s holistic and integrated approach to care has shown to decrease anxiety and depression symptom severity by more than 50% within 90 days, resulting in improved health outcomes and reduced costs.

“Ellis has a long and proud tradition of providing mental health services to the people of our community, and beyond,” said Paul Milton, President & CEO of Ellis Medicine. “This partnership with aptihealth honors that tradition, while simultaneously embracing new models and new technologies in the delivery of care.”

Ellis Medicine continues to deepen its commitment to mental health services, recently opening its expanded outpatient clinic for children and teens in Schenectady. The renovated facility doubled its capacity to serve young patients at a time of increasing demand in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the model with aptihealth, following an initial screening, patients in need of behavioral healthcare are referred to aptihealth to complete a comprehensive online self-assessment. Patients are then remotely matched with a licensed therapist who specializes in their areas of need, and together they develop a personalized, goal-oriented 90-day care plan. The plan includes weekly teletherapy, medication management as needed, and unlimited messaging between therapy sessions. The aptihealth platform enables progress to be tracked weekly and the dedicated care team, including the patient's primary care doctor, therapist, prescriber, and care manager, remain connected throughout treatment.
