Listen to your heart

Don’t miss your risks for heart disease

Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the US, but many people don’t recognize the warning signs. The symptoms can be different for each of us.

Don’t miss your risks. Talk to your doctor about your risks for heart disease, and when you need care, turn to the nationally-recognized cardiac care team at Ellis Medicine for early diagnosis, advanced treatment options and integrated care.

Remember: If you’re experiencing symptoms of a heart attack, or you’re not sure, don’t wait. Call an ambulance or come to the Emergency Department at Ellis Medicine.

A center for fast, accurate diagnoses

Ellis Medicine offers sophisticated diagnostic tools to help doctors quickly identify and treat heart problems, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The Bruggeman Center for Diagnosis & Treatment provides a full range of diagnostic procedures including catheterization, echocardiograms, electrophysiology exams and advanced CT imaging to assist in diagnosis and plan treatments.

Dedicated care for cardiac emergencies

Ellis Medicine’s Cardiac Fast Track program and dedicated chest pain unit ensures that patients get prompt attention and treatment in emergency situations. Our experienced team can recognize and begin treating atypical symptoms to prevent damage to heart tissue. Door-to-balloon times (the average time for a heart attack patient to get from the emergency department to the catheterization lab where we restore blood flow) averages about 30 minutes faster than the national benchmark, to provide potentially lifesaving treatments much sooner.

Advanced treatment options

The Wright Heart Center at Ellis Hospital is one of only three programs in the Capital Region authorized by the NYS Department of Health to perform cardiac surgery. Our experienced, board certified cardiothoracic surgeons use advanced surgical procedures and minimally invasive techniques to deal with common heart conditions and complex, life-threatening emergencies. We also have one of the Northeast's highest-volume catheterization labs, performing more than 1,500 procedures each year to evaluate heart function, open blocked coronary arteries and restore blood flow to the heart. Our cardiac program is recognized as a Blue Distinction Center, one of only two centers in our region to earn this distinction.
