Women's
Night Out
The 17th Annual Women's Night Out is October 5, 2010 at the Marriott
on Wolf Road in Colonie. We expect more than 600 women of all ages
to join us for an evening of shopping, dining and most importantly
laughing - all to benefit Bellevue Woman's Center, a service of
Ellis Medicine.
We hope you will join us.
The goal of our annual Women's Night Out is to bring women together
and provide them with services and information that will help them
make healthier life choices and assure their well being. The event
includes a unique combination of education on women's health issues,
plus dinner, shopping, and humorous and motivational entertainment
designed to celebrate the women who make our community such a
wonderful place to live.
This year's entertainer is the hilarious Mrs. Hughes. The first time
you see Mrs. Hughes you might think, "She could be my neighbor."
She's just about the last person you'd expect to see doing a comedy
act. But you'll soon see that her "everyday woman" appeal is what
makes her humor so memorable, relatable and downright funny. Her act
is punctuated with observations on parenting, hot flashes and
husbands.
Carol Hughes began her comedy career when she was forty. Mrs.
Hughes' likeness and wit was featured in the "According to Carol"
line of greeting cards in 100,000 stores and gift shops throughout
the country. She was the comedy star for Merv Griffin's revue "Love
and Kisses" in Atlantic City and "Island Fever" near Las Vegas. Mr.
Griffin described Mrs. Hughes as "my new favorite funny star." Since
then, she has appeared in several casino production shows and has
opened for Crystal Gayle, Lou Rawls, Brenda Lee and others.
In addition to the comedy of Mrs. Hughes, the 2010 Women's Night Out
will continue the tradition of presenting the annual Jane Golub
Leadership in Women's Health Award. This year, plastic surgeon
Patricia Fox, M.D. will be honored.
Dr. Fox is a well-respected physician and medical leader, with an
impressive record of community service, locally and abroad. In
addition to her more than 30 years in private practice, the board
certified plastic surgeon serves as co-director of the Cleft Palate
Clinic at Ellis Medicine, and has been active in medical mission
work since 1995. She travels annually to the Dominican Republic to
volunteer her time caring for children with cleft palates. Dr. Fox
was the lead plastic surgeon for a 2005 Chinese Children's
Charities' mission to provide cleft care for Tibetan orphans and she
helped establish Surgeons for Underserved Nations (S.U.N.), a
charitable group devoted to providing care and surgical education to
underserved locations.
Women's Night Out continues to be the area's premier event to
celebrate the women who make our community such a wonderful place to
live, work and raise a family.
Invitations will be mailed in mid-August. If you would like to join
