Detection

Early detection is critical to effectively treating cancer. Ellis Medicine offers state-of-the-art detection equipment, including:

  • CT (Computed Tomography) - Ellis Medicine offers the latest in CT imaging both at Ellis Hospital and Ellis Health Center. Using state-of-the-art CT scanners, Ellis provides patients with more rapid and detailed imaging for the diagnosis of cancer, and many other diseases.
  • Digital Mammography Unit - Digital mammography, coupled with computer assisted detection capability, is rapidly becoming the standard of care. Ellis is proud to offer the very latest technology at the Ellis Health Center and at the Bellevue Woman’s Center.
  • MRI Center at Ellis Hospital - Ellis Hospital's advanced MRI is one of the fastest and most powerful in the Capital Region. Ellis offers MRI services on its main Ellis Hospital Campus and at its Health Center Campus.

Treatment

Ellis Medicine offers a variety of advanced treatment options for cancer care patients, including:

  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) - Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a major development in cancer treatment. It allows radiation oncologists to treat cancers with greater accuracy than ever before.
  • Radioactive Seed Implantation for Prostate Cancer - This treatment, also called brachytherapy, uses tiny "seeds" of radioactive material that are injected into a patient's prostate with special needles and the help of ultrasound guidance. Once inside the prostate, the seeds give off cancer-killing radiation for up to a year. The procedure is designed to kill cancer cells in the prostate and keep the cancer from spreading to other parts of the body.
