Primary Care at the Ellis Family Health Center

The Ellis Medicine Family Health Center sees patients of all ages and provides a full range of high quality services in one convenient location. From treating colds and flu, to providing physical exams and immunizations, to addressing questions about child development or concerns that come with getting older, the Family Health Center is the place families and individuals can trust to meet their health care needs.

At the Family Health Center, our highly trained staff treats each patient as an individual, providing comprehensive and compassionate care. Our providers spend time getting to know our patients, listening to their concerns and responding to their needs.

Dedicated to teaching and learning

The Family Health Center also serves as the training facility for Ellis Medicine's Family Medicine Residency & Osteopathic Programs. We are proud to educate future generations of physicians, many of whom decide to stay in our community to practice. Additionally, as a service of Ellis Medicine, the Family Health Center is backed by the comprehensive services of one of our region's finest health care systems. That means our patients have access to the best specialists and most advanced medical equipment and technology, close to home.

A Focus on Wellness

One of the key ingredients to good health is prevention. We offer a number of wellness services to keep you healthy, and various screenings for the early detection of diseases, including:

From routine gynecological and pregnancy exams to contraception and sexuality and menopause counseling, our highly trained health care professionals provide patient-centered care to meet the special needs of women.

The Family Health Center's prenatal program provides expectant women with excellent care throughout their pregnancy. From pregnancy testing and ultrasounds, to parenting classes and delivery, we support and care for Mom and baby every step of the way. Our providers deliver at the Bellevue Woman's Center, a service of Ellis Medicine, and our patients have access to the various educational and support programs offered at Bellevue.

Referrals & Hospital Care

Should our patients require more specialized care or treatment, we will consult with or refer you to the appropriate medical expert or link you to a social service agency that can help. Should you require hospital care, our physicians will admit you to Ellis Hospital and tend to you during your stay.

Dr. Back earned a master's degree in public health from SUNY Albany in 2006. Prior to joining the hospital's Family Practice Residency Program in 1996, he worked with the Indian Health Service, Center for Disease Control, and as medical director of a local community health center. He served as St. Clare's chief of Family Practice from 2002-2008. He coordinates undergraduate / pre-doctoral education and his interests include public health, community medicine, epidemiology and obstetrics.
